Inter have been credited with interest in Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette as the Frenchman prepares to leave the Gunners in the coming months.

Lacazette is in the final year of his Arsenal contract and has been left out in the cold by Mikel Arteta in the Premier League. The Frenchman is yet to start a league match this season, not even getting on the pitch at all in successive wins over Norwich, Burnley and Tottenham last month.

90min reported in September that Lacazette is likely to leave Arsenal, either in January or as a free agent in the summer. Talks over a new contract have been held but no offer has been made and there has been no indication either side wants to extend.

Lyon are interested in re-signing the 30-year-old, who scored 129 goals in 275 appearances for his boyhood club between 2010 and 2017. Staying in the Premier League is also not off the table as Lacazette is open to staying in London, with West Ham and Crystal Palace potential options.

Further afield there has also been interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany.

Lacazette is considered more likely to leave as a free agent at the end of the season than in January, when Arsenal could still command a small transfer fee for him.

In Italy, Gazzetta dello Sport writes that Inter are looking to strengthen in January. Lacazette is said to be one of the options they are considering, with a free transfer in summer also of appeal.

It follows a similar pattern as the free signing of 35-year-old Edin Dzeko ahead of this season – Inter will only pay €1.5m if they qualify for the Champions League – which is intended to keep spending low despite selling Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi for big money. Inter invested heavily in 2019 and 2020 to build a team for Antonio Conte to deliver a long overdue Serie A title, but spending has had to be much more careful this year.

One of the priorities for Inter is to offload former Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean’s annual salary is an estimated €7m but he has hardly featured so far this season after falling down the pecking order since the arrival of new coach Simone Inzaghi.
